About Y Aerial Arts
The Aerial Arts is a circus genre in which acrobats perform on apparatuses suspended in the air, such as aerial silks/tissu, rope, trapeze, hammock and more.  It is a showcase of strength, skill, agility, and highly technical choreography and tricks.  The Y Aerial Arts program offers a unique opportunity for students to learn this artform in a safe, accessible, and professional environment.  From the child looking to try something new, to the adult seeking a fun way to stay fit, or the performing artist looking to embark on a more professional track, these classes are catered to the individual.  Classes currently focus on the art of aerial silks.  Students learn basic technique including footlocks, wristkeys, inversions, drops, sequencing, and choreography. Absolute beginner through advanced students welcome.

About the Director/Teacher

Hilary Sweeney has been teaching the aerial arts at the Family YMCA at Tarrytown since 2008. Hilary's teaching style focuses on building strong technique, fluid movement, and above all incorporating safe practices.  She customizes training according to individual abilities and goals.  Hilary’s mission in both teaching and performing is to inspire ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

Hilary is an active performer and has been featured in Cirque Le Masque’s “Carnviale”, ImaginAerial, Amazing Grace Circus,  Above the Belt off-broadway, Showboat Shazam, and numerous special events.  She trained privately with Cirque du Soleil's Ivo Georgiev and the Gemini Twins, National Circus School's Kevin O'Connor, ImaginAerial's Laura Witwer, and Espana Streb Trapeze Academy's Bobby Hedglin.  In addition to more than eight plus of aerial training, Hilary draws from extensive dance training since the age of five.
