The Family YMCA at Tarrytown is pleased to present Drew Fixell with the Laurance S. Rockefeller award for his many years of devotion and service to the Village of Tarrytown and its surrounding communities. Drew, a 37-year resident of Tarrytown, served as a village trustee for five years and then as its mayor for fifteen. In 2020, due to the pandemic, Drew stepped down as mayor to be able to care full time for his grandchildren and elderly parents.

In addition to these roles, Drew has served on a number of boards, committees and task forces including the NYS Governor’s Tappan Zee Bridge Mass Transit Task Force, Westchester County Transportation Board, Tarrytown Architectural Review Board, Open Door and the Historic Hudson Rivertowns. He also was a co-founder of the Foundation for the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns and served for many years as its Vice-President.

Drew earned his bachelor’s degree in economics at Harvard and then went on to Cornell to earn a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, focusing on energy conservation. This background served him well as he endeavored to stop the proposed concrete crushing plant on the waterfront and his involvement with the Clearwater, Scenic Hudson and Sierra clubs. Professionally he worked as a Financial Analyst with the New York State Comptroller’s Office for twelve years and is currently the Chief Financial Officer at a private investment firm.

Drew has been married for 38 years to Victoria Hudson, a neo-natal intensive care nurse (now retired) and is the proud father and father-in-law of his daughters Nina and Liana and their spouses Marino and Joey.

Victoria and Drew have 3 young grandsons: Elias, Amiel and Simon!

On Thursday, September 30th the Family YMCA at Tarrytown hosted it's 2nd annual "A Circle of Caring" Fundraiser at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

Friends, family, colleagues, and honored guests all came out to participate in the Family YMCA at Tarrytown's fundraiser. A silent auction, live appeal, music, and fun getting together in person once again, were the order of the evening!

If you missed participating and would still like to make a donation, you can do that here.

On September 28, 2018, almost 200 people attended the 10th Annual Y Halloween Masquerade Ball as we honored Phelps Hospital and Daniel J Blum, CEO & President, with the Laurance S Rockefeller award. Phelps, like the Y, emphasizes community service and outreach, and we also share a mission with Phelps: to enhance the health & wellness of everyone we serve, regardless of ability to pay.

We thank everyone who sponsored the Ball, took Journal ads for the Ball, used their creative skills as volunteers for the Ball, attended the Ball and /or made donations to the Ball. We cannot do our important work without you. As you can see below, the evening was a smashing success! Here's the link to the full complement of photos from the event, which can be purchased from Margaret Fox Photography.

We celebrated again this year with the Tarrytown Jazz during cocktails, and the Hank Lane Park Avenue Band during dinner and dancing.

We dedicate all funds raised to our Y Strong Kids Campaign, which provides financial aid to underserved children for Childcare, Aquatics, Dance and Theatre programming throughout the coming year..

Our  Y Early Learning Center at the Y Main Street facility enables us to provide much needed daycare and after school services to a wide range of children in the surrounding areas, including many who require financial aid to receive our nurturing, daily care.  We provide our sponsors with maximum publicity in our marketing collateral over the next six months and with much fanfare at the event.  There is also an option to sponsor a pre-ball Champagne reception to maximize your exposure to other sponsors and our honored guests. We invite YOU to sponsor this momentous event in 2019.

On Friday September 22, 2017 at LIFE THE PLACE TO BE in Ardsley, NY., we honored long-term supporter of the Y, Linda Giuliano. Linda has served on the Y Board over the past 20 years, including as Board Chair.  We are so grateful to Linda for all the time, talent and treasure she has devoted to the Family YMCA at Tarrytown.

200 friends of the Y gathered to support the Y Strong Kids Fund, which provides Y membership and program financial aid for our underserved neighbors and friends.  Together, through Silent, Live and Fund the Future auctions, and with the support of our amazing sponsors Abbott & Price, PCSB, Marshall & Sterling, Alliance Bernstein Friends of Linda, Jenny & Kiran Batheja, Sadie & Nick Singman, Clover Comfort, PAYCOR, Phelps Hospital/Northwell Health, At Home Recreation, Giuliano Family, Premiere Business Innovations, EMC, Sylvia & Aubrey Hawes, Swim & Play,  EF School, William Raveis Legends Realty Group, we raised more than $123,000 for our Y Kids and Families.  We are so grateful and so proud of our community!
