The Y is honoring Joan and William M. Mooney, Jr. with the Laurance S. Rockefeller Award for their dedication to the improvement of the lives of Westchester residents and Edward Apuzzo, posthumously, former Y Board Member, with the Leonard Andrew Spirit of Service Award.
Recipients of the prestigious Laurance S. Rockefeller Award have made significant and lasting contributions to the Family YMCA at Tarrytown and other community-based organizations that serve children and families, have served as leaders in the community and/or have made a significant contribution to the Hudson River Valley. The Leonard Andrew Spirit of Service award was created two years ago to acknowledge the commitment of former Y Board Member Leonard Andrew to the Y's mission.

MORE ABOUT OUR LEN ANDREW SPIRIT OF SERVICE HONOREE
Edward A. Apuzzo was a gentle, kind, and deeply generous member of the Irvington and Tarrytown communities whose life reflected curiosity, compassion, and an abiding commitment to others. A graduate of Villanova University, NYU, and Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, Ed built a distinguished 35‑year international banking career with Chase Manhattan Bank, UBS, and HSBC, living and working across South America before settling in Sleepy Hollow. In retirement, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to service—volunteering with the Tarrytown YMCA, the Tarrytown Food Pantry, and All Saints’ Church—sharing the same warm, friendly, and calm demeanor that endeared him to colleagues, friends, and neighbors throughout his life. His love of language, culture, music, and simple joys like bridge, crossword puzzles, and making Christmas jam reflected a spirit that was both vibrant and giving, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Sadly, on September 23, 2023, we lost Ed to a rare sarcoma that he bravely fought for three years. The Family YMCA is proud to honor him posthumously for his tireless efforts to elevate the work of the Y and his unwavering support of our community/ Ed, you are truly missed.
