During the Coronavirus Crisis we are providing much-needed childcare for our families as well as children of first responders and other medical and essential workers, many of who do not have the resources for childcare fees.  We have been providing financial assistance for over half our residents who are unable to pay rent (as well as other necessary support for them), reaching out with wellness calls for our seniors and other most needy members and virtual fitness opportunities.

Just as we have in past crises like the housing and financial crisis of 2008, where we drastically reduced membership fees of anyone in need, the Y is still here for our community.  The direction of our mission has not changed; we have never turned anyone away based on their ability to pay and during the last two years gave out over $800,000 in aid to the families we serve. In order to be able to reopen and continue our mission when the crisis is over, we are asking for all of our members’ support.  We hope that you will continue to support us in any way that is feasible for you.

DONATE to the 2020 Annual Campaign FOR A BETTER US.

Why does the Family Y at Tarrytown have the Annual Campaign?

The Y’s financial assistance program is 100% funded by donations. Membership fees cover our facilities, salaries, and other operating expenses but do not fund our financial assistance program. The financial investment in our organization from our members, staff, and community members ensures that our doors are open to all, regardless of financial circumstance.  Read our Annual Support Appeal.

Here are a few examples of how your gift can make a difference today:
  • $50 - provides a counseling session to underserved families.
  • $100 - teaches a child to swim and to be water safe
  • $250 - allows 2 children to increase self-esteem by participating in a theatre or dance class
  • $500 - fosters independence and teaches new skills to 5 children at a week of summer camp
  • $1000 - helps 6 cancer patients lessen the effects of their chemotherapy through fitness and exercise
  • $1500 - provides daycare to two families
  • $2500 - provides 10 seniors on fixed incomes the opportunity for social interaction through annual memberships.
  • $5000 - allows 5 familes in need to lead healthier, happier lives with annual memberships at the Y
  • $10,000 - allows 4 underprivileged children to discover their full potential at an entire summer of camp

Marco at the Y today
“The Y swimming program has literally saved my son’s life. When he was 18 months old, we were at a pool with friends & all of a sudden I heard "Mommy he's under water."  Marco had slipped going into the pool & there were his feet, sticking up from under the water. We rescued him from the water and I rushed Marco to the ER. After keeping Marco for observation for an hour or more, the doctor released him to my grateful arms. I mentioned that Marco had taken swim lessons at the Y since he was 7 ½ months old and as a result is always so calm in the water.  The doctor responded, "the swim lessons most likely saved his life; he knows more than you think. His lungs were totally clear."  I will NEVER forget that moment of fear when I saw him upside down in the pool, nor my continued gratitude to the Y.  Without the financial aid we receive, Marco could not take the lessons, and without the lessons, Marco may not have survived the pool accident.”  -Y Swimming Parent, November 2017

US... IS A PROMISE Every day, the Y strengthens communities for kids, adults, seniors and families with programs that protect, teach, connect, heal, nourish and encourage. It’s how we help communities and the “us” who live in them achieve our individual and collective promise. We give away more than $400,000 in programs and services, thanks to your continued help.

Providing financial support to those in need and focusing on Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, are what the Y stands for.  We see the results of these good works everyday in the faces of those who participate. A contribution in any amount would ensure these programs are available to everyone who needs them.  Remember, Y Membership Fees keep the building clean, the equipment running smoothly and our staff compensated.  Your donation, however, helps us helps those in need.  Take a look at this summary of how we use Membership Dues vs Your Donations.

We count on the generosity of our members, partners and the community at large to keep our doors open to whoever needs a place to go to help them become more healthy, confident, connected and secure. The Y maximizes the use of every dollar.  Of every dollar contributed, 98 cents go directly to programs.

Volunteers work in all areas of the YMCA.  In Childcare, as coaches, mentors, in fundraising events, on our Board of Directors - our volunteers make the difference.  Whether you're a teenager, parent, grandparent or corporate executive, we need  you! All it takes is a little time to make a difference in someone's life.

Your tax-deductible donation will help to ensure that the Y, a charitable, non-profit 501(c)3 organization, will continue to offer these vital community programs again next year.
