Y Aquatics Department is accepting applications for both Lifeguards and Swim Instructors who will be responsible for daily tasks as assigned by their position which include but are not limited to the following:

Lifeguards: (various shifts, but consistent afternoon, evening and weekend shifts available in addition to any substitute shifts)

·         Current certifications in Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED, First Aid

·         Maintain constant supervision and ensure safety of all participants during various activities (lap swim, childrens swim lessons, water fitness classes, adult and youth recreational swims)

·         Responsible for enforcing all pool rules in a polite, consistent manner

·         Responsible for the set up of the pool (placing racing lanes in or out of the pool) for different programs

·         Keeps pool area neat by putting all equipment away on a regular basis

·         Performs maintenance tasks as assigned by shift (vacuuming of pool, hosing of pool deck)

·         Required to test and record the pool chemicals every 4 hours

·         Refrains from using cell phone while on the pool deck, remains attentive at all times

·         Experience preferred, but not mandatory

Swim Instructors: (consistent weekday afternoon shifts and weekend mornings to early afternoon available, in addition to any substitute shifts)

·         Current WSI certification and CPR/AED is preferred; will consider applicants with no less than 1 year of swimming lesson experience who are not WSI certified

·         Responsible for teaching children 6 months through 15 years of age the various appropriate skills based on the YMCA curriculum based on their evaluated level (Pike, Eel, Guppy, Fish etc)

·         Be able to demonstrate all swimming skills in addition to effectively verbally describing what skill you would like a child to demonstrate for visual learners and auditory learners

·         Provides positive constructive feedback

·         Motivated when teaching to make lessons fun

·         Completes students written evaluations each session which are provided to parents for insight on how their child is performing and what they have progressed in or need more work in

Positions offer competitive hourly rates based on number of years of experience and include a free membership to the YMCA

All open Aquatics positions are for the summer session running June 25 - August 26  (paid training and orientations would take place prior to June 25)
